Richly colored, deeply penetrating, oil-based Cabot® Semi-Solid Stain & Sealer Low VOC offers wood protection and long-lasting beauty. Compared to semi-transparent stains, this particular stain has more concealing power, yet its appealing finish brings out the texture's inherent attractiveness.
Semi-Solid Deck Features
Cabot Semi-Solid Deck & Siding Stains are deep penetrating linseed oil-based stains that provide long lasting beauty and wood protection, highlight the natural beauty of the wood's texture with a uniquely pigmented appearance. With their extra pigmentation, Cabot deck and siding stains are extremely durable and help protect wood against the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays.
Coverage
Spread rates will vary depending on the porosity of the surface. On smooth surfaces, 1400 series covers approximately 400-500 square feet per gallon, 17400 series covers approximately 250-350 square feet per gallon.
Where to Use
Cabot Semi-Solid Deck & Siding Stains are ideal for use on wood where hiding coverage is desired, yet penetrating wood protection is needed. They also provide an outstanding value as a one-coat finish for recoating previously semi-transparent-stained surfaces. Cabot Semi-Solid Deck & Siding Stains can be used on most types of smooth and rough exterior wood, including decks, siding, fences, log homes and roofs. They provide excellent results on weathered wood and well-seasoned lumber such as cedar, fir, pine, cypress, spruce, redwood and plywood panel siding.
Preparing Your Surfaces
Proper surface preparation is the key to maximum stain performance. The durability of this product can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface. It is very important that the surface be clean of all dirt, mildew stains, loose wood fibers and other foreign matter. In order to be effective, a stain must be able to penetrate. Surfaces must be structurally sound and absolutely dry. (Moisture content must be below 15%, or wood must be exposed to dry weather a minimum of 3 to 5 days.) Previously semi-transparent stained or weathered wood surfaces must be either sanded, scrubbed with a detergent solution or Cabot Problem-Solver® Wood Cleaner and a stiff bristle brush, or power washed to remove the surface layer of all loose wood fibers, dirt, mildew stains, chalky residue and other foreign matter. Use Cabot Problem-Solver Strippers (8004) to safely remove all stains and paints from wood surfaces. Use Cabot Problem-Solver Wood Brightener to easily remove nail and metal rust stains, and renew the wood's appearance. New smooth wood that is unseasoned or appears shiny should be allowed to weather sufficiently before staining, but generally no longer than three months.
Application
Stir thoroughly before and occasionally while using. If the job requires more than one batch, blend them together. Apply evenly with a brush to small sections. For best results, use a high quality pad applicator or stain brush. To avoid lap marks, start at one edge and follow through to the end of the boards. Restain depending on sun exposure and wear every 2-4 years (up to 1 year for Clear).
Cleanup and Disposal

• Protects and enhances the natural beauty of wood
• Gives a slight gray tone of color to the wood
• Accelerates the natural weathering process of uncoated wood
Cabot bleaching stain is uniquely formulated to accelerate the natural weathering process of uncoated exterior wood. It contains a small amount of gray pigment and a chemical ingredient that actually bleaches the wood's surface. When first applied, this product gives a delicate gray tone and during the first few months' exposures, it gradually turns into a beautiful, natural driftwood gray color. This weathered effect, if derived by nature, would require many years of harsh exposure, which often turns wood dark and uneven in appearance. Cabot bleaching stain produces a self-protecting finish and achieves a uniform weathered look in only 3 to 6 months.

Where to Apply
Cabot Clear Wood Protector is ideal for use on new or refinished wood decks, porches, outdoor furniture, steps, and railings. Stone, masonry, brick, and concrete are also acceptable.
Preparing your surface
Check for dirt, mildew stains, loose wood fibers, and other foreign substances on the surface. The substance must be able to permeate in order to be effective. Surfaces must be stable and dry or wet. If the wood is moist, it should be clear of puddles and not feel damp. Cabot® Wood Cleaner, Wood Brightener, or Wood Strippers can be used to clean previously discolored or aged surfaces. Scrubbing with a firm bristle brush or sanding may be necessary to remove all loose wood fibers from untreated aged surfaces.
Application
Brushes, stain pads, a low-pressure garden sprayer, or professional spray equipment can be used. Always quickly back-brush after spraying. Always complete a small test area before proceeding to guarantee the correct look and drying time. Before and during use, vigorously shake and whisk. If the project calls for more than one container, mix them all together to maintain consistency. Depending on exposure, reapply every 1-2 years. When standing or walking on surfaces that are still damp after applying Cabot Clear Wood Protector, exercise caution since the surface may be slippery.
Cleanup and Disposal
Clean brushes and equipment with soap and water. Dispose of empty cans or unused portion in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.

✔️ Maximum performance and fast drying
✔️ Ideal for exterior base coats
✔️ Problem-Solver Primer yields outstanding results on siding, shingles, plywood and both smooth- and rough-sawn surfaces
Cabot Problem-Solver Primer provides maximum performance through a faster-drying and higher-hiding formulation. An ideal exterior base coat for all types of solid stains and paints, it provides superior resistance to extractive bleeding and moisture problems. The 100 percent alkyd, oil-based formula dries in a fraction of the time compared to traditional linseed oil-based primers and both formulas facilitate the application of a quality finish coat within just a few hours. Problem-Solver Primer yields outstanding results on siding, shingles, plywood and both smooth- and rough-sawn surfaces. It is also suited for application over previously oil-based stained or painted surfaces.
